Carlos Roque (Lisbon, 1969), lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
He undertook a degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (1994) and he attended a Photography Course at Instituto Português de Fotografia (1988). In 2004, with grants from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Luso American Foundation he participated as an artist-in-residence with ISCP, NY; in 2001 he took part in Cité International des Arts residency, with a Mairie de Paris grant. In the same year, Carlos Roque won the “Visual Arts Prize” from I.P. Foundation.
In the last years, he has participated in a great number of group exhibitions, from which we can highlight “GERMINAL. The Cabrita Reis Collection”, Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Lisbon (2018); “Lá Fora”, EDP Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal; “50 Years of Portuguese Art”, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal (2007).
He has participated on several curatorial projects in New York and Lisbon; and music has been a very important part of his practice (he is one of the members of the Portuguese plastic/musical group “Tone Scientists”).
